Disney World's New Pricing
By Justin
Disney is changing the pricing plans for Walt Disney world in 2019. (cringe….)
The new pricing plan will be available on
October 16 on DisneyWorld.com. While
specific pricing is not yet available, a few high level details are.
Starting in 2019, Disney will no longer charge a premium for the Magic
Kingdom. In addition, it appears that you will no longer have 15 days
from the initial use of any multi-day ticket to use the remaining days.
In essence, you will use a newly revamped website to buy tickets for the
specific dates you intend to attend the parks. Pricing for the days will
vary not only by season but by different days during a month.
Though little specific information is
available, Disney has put out a blog
entry that includes a demonstration video for the new booking site.
Looking at the video, it looks like you will first select the number of days
you intend to purchase. It appears that there is still a discount for
purchasing a longer stay. After selecting the number of days, you will be
presented with a calendar where you can select the first day you intend to
enter the parks. The calendar will have pricing on it so you can see all your
options. In addition, there is a new link to find the cheapest months to
visit. That link alone can knock out about 20% of the questions on any
Disney World question/answer forum.
The video makes it appear as if the
pricing for a visit will be based on the
price for that first day. This may leave us bargain shoppers with some
wiggle room. For instance, I might specify a day before my visit as my
first day if it is cheaper. So, if I want to start my vacation on
Saturday, I may say that I am arriving on Friday (a week day) which is likely
to be a cheaper day. In the online example, a person buying 4 day tickets has 7
days to use them. However, if Disney really checks for the first date of use
you may find yourself at the ticket window paying additional money for your
tickets. We will have to see how it really works once the system is in
operation.
Note that if plans change after you
purchase your tickets, you can change the tickets online or at a ticket window,
adding any additional required money for your start date. If your plans change so that your start date is a less
expensive day, well Disney thanks you for the donation. Refunds will not
be offered in that case.
The video shows an add-on option to make
the tickets good for 14 days from any first-use date in 2019, making the
tickets function like they do today. However, you will pay a hefty
premium for that option.
Look for more information here as it
becomes available.
